Today is an unforgettable day in my life. I feel so proud of my
husband. I thought I could keep the necklace for my daughter in laws. it was
not for me .When he said he was going to give all those to a trust I felt
angry. At first it seemed to me as if he was denying me luxuries .What right he
had to give it away? But his strong determination, honesty and humble way of
life attracted me .Now I think he is right .We should lead a simple life there
by becoming a model for others to imitate .Thank god for making me his wife .I
feel proud of my sons also for supporting him. Tomorrow we shall submit the
gifts to the trust. I feel happy now

Dear diary,
Oh I feel lost. What am I to do now?How can I accept the gifts? I have
been leading a simple life without much luxuries. My wife and sons are also used
with it. Now my friends have given me precious diamonds and gold.If I receive
them my service will lose its value.I still believe that service itself is a
reward.I have been asking people to live without the infactuation for jewellery. Then
how can I use gold watches ?oh no.I shall never do that. But if I return them
all my friends will feel hurt.I shall create a trust of these precious gifts in
favour of the Indian community .I shall discuss it with my wife and children .
Critical appreciation of the poem –twice a week
A man looks back to the youthful days of his life. He is (at least
in memory) on the playing field, and tells us that twice every week, all
through the winter, he stood on this spot as goalkeeper (shortened to “goalie”
or “keeper”). But he was an unhappy young man, melancholy, and in those
days football then was a way of fighting his sorrow, of keeping the sadness and
depression out of mind. It was a common belief in British schools of that
time that sports were an important part of male education, helping to provide,
as the Latin saying goes, mens
sana in corpore sano — “a healthy mind in a healthy body.” He does
not tell us why he was sad. Housman himself was homosexual, and there
would have been reason enough for a person so inclined to sorrow in those days
when it was spoken of in whispers, the so-called “love that dare not speak its
name.” Not only was there the possibility of being a social outcast if
word got out, but also there were sobering legal penalties. So Housman
knew well what it meant to be “acquainted with grief,” as the biblical
expression puts it.
But
speaking more generally, there are many reasons why a young man might be given
to sadness and depression, with the reasons varying as widely as the
individuals. So we know our young man was deeply
unhappy, and used football as an escape all through the winter days. The season
moves on to spring. It is the month of May, and the seasonal sport now
played is that quintessentially British game, cricket. Our unhappy young
man marches out to the rectangular “pitch,” that is, the playing area. He
has his flat cricket bat, and wears the customary knee pads. He stands at
the wicket. In cricket there are two wickets, one at each end of the
pitch, consisting of three short upright sticks in the ground topped with two
loose crosspieces called “bails.” So as he marches out with bat and pads
to the wicket, he invites the reader to see him as he was then, a “son of
grief,” that is, a very sad young man, trying again to keep his sorrow
temporarily at bay, “trying to be glad.”
Housman
uses the football season (approximately autumn to spring) and the cricket
season (approximately spring to autumn) to show us how the speaker in the poem
attempted to deal with his unhappiness throughout the year.
And now
Housman comes to the summation of the matter, looking back on the youthful
attempt of the lad to fight sorrow through sport:
Try I will; no harm in trying:
Wonder ’tis how little mirth
Keeps the bones of man from lying
On the bed of earth.
Wonder ’tis how little mirth
Keeps the bones of man from lying
On the bed of earth.
As in
those young days of playing sports, the speaker of the poem says,
“Try I will.” He will keep trying to keep sadness off, because trying
certainly does no harm, though success may be limited. Because after all,
he says, it is a wonder how little mirth, how little enjoyment in life, keeps a
person from just giving up on living entirely, and becoming merely dead bones
lying in the earth.
Housman
frequently turns to this kind of bittersweet paradox. It takes but little
pleasure in life to make a person want to keep living, and the speaker of the
poem wonders that it takes so little — just the escape in a game of football,
or in a game of cricket. Or, of course, in any number of other things.
Critical Appreciation Of The Poem Song Of Dream
Sarojini Naidu is a poet of colour, melody and beauty. She
is a true patriot who wrote English poetry which is Indian to the core. Her
poems are noted for their romantic fervour, felicity of expression and the
intensity of feeling conveyed in an extremely sensuous manner.'Song of a Dream'
is a beautiful lyric written in a philosophical mood about a dream in which the
poet attains perfect peace and serenity. In her dream, she interacts with the
spirits of Love, Peace and Truth. This poem abounds in romanticism, lyricism and
imagination. It mirrors patriotism, gaiety and serenity.
The poet is speaking about her dreamland in this poem. She
is alone in a magical wood where beautiful and soulful visions sprung before
her like poppies. The Spirit of Truth which appeared in the land of her dreams
are compare to singing birds. The sky glitters with the spirit of Love which
shines bright. The poem evokes auditory images (birds that sing) as well as
visual images: (stars that glowed and the spirits of Peace that flowed like
streams.) Thus air, water and the sky- the key elements of the earth -bloom
with the spirits of Truth, Peace and Love respectively.
The sounds repeated through the poem lenda a musical quality
folowed by the ryhme scheme aabbccd. Moreover,alliteration- repeated consonant
sounds at the beginning of words placed near each other, occur in the
lines:
- Lone in the light
- gather of gleam
The poet emphasises
the fact that all these happen in the land of sleep-her dreamland. There is a
mix of emotionspeace and serenity along with her loneliness. The poet employs a
simile to express her delight. She feels surrounded by Love as it gleams around
her body. She hears the songs of the spirit of Truth as it hums around her.
Truth, Love and Peace are personified. She considers them as the key
ingredients of a peaceful world.
The spirit of Peace
that flows like streams in the land of sleep quenches her intense desire and
longing for serenity. In the "magical wood", sleep brings relief to
the ever-stressful mind and wipes away pain, sorrow and loneliness magically.
It is noteworthy that the spirits of Love, Peace and Truth welcome her into
their magical world and help her to get rid of her loneliness.
The rich imagery in the poem is charged with powerful feelings as much as with sensuousness. Therefore, the place imagined in the poem can also be described as Naidu’s vision of India. She wants to dwell in an India that is ruled by the ideals of love, peace and truth, and that's free from hatred, oppression and violence.

We are a group of concerned students who recide in Darmagiri. Our village is very small and
beautiful and serene. We lead a peaceful life in harmony with the trees ,the mountain, the river, the
flowers and birds. The river that flows down sustains our very life. But of late, we are too
concerned about a grave issue. Our peaceful life is going to be threatened by some big people's
project of building a star hotel on the top of Darmagiri mountain. We could never allow such a
thoughtless act since it would mar our lives. The only construction we have on the mountain is a
three hundred year old temple. All the villagers know for sure that the mountain could not be dug
more than thirty feet down. It would result in massive landslides. We plead for our rights to live
and learn in a peaceful atmosphere. We strongly state that we don't need any fancy hotels in our
village even if it is tagged under tourism and development. Hope you would see to it and prevent
the concerned authorities from making such a grave mistake

Write an analysis of the poem Song of the rain.
.The most sensuous poem “Song of the rain” is penned by Khalil Gibran, the author of the celebrated work “The Prophet”. A painter with unequalled skills ,Gibran the writer was a powerful advocate of unity of being and universal love. He had an extra ordinary eye for details and contrasts. His nature poems are but testimonials to the inseparable communion with man and nature. Like Wordsworth ,Gibran too leaped at times, and longed to rest in the leap of nature. He spotted a divinity everywhere in nature. Gibran owes much of his poetic skills to the breathtakingly beautiful country side of Bisshari where he was blessed to spend his younger days.
Song of the rain is a eulogy to rain.Rain is the speaker. It tells its personal saga, more likely to that of a letter.Rain ,the very nourishing juice of existence, makes the dry parched lands fertile.Rain fills the void between the two inseparables, the sky and the earth.
Rain adds beauty, color, vibrance and vigour to all the living things.Rain represents life itself.Just as we mortals are made up of the five elements ,rain too comes from the elements and goes back to it completing the cycle of birth and death.
Rain takes its birth from the heart of the seas and soars high with stray winds and then pours down to the needy thirsty fields.
The poet begins the poem by telling us that rain is the divine gift of God.It looks like a silver dotted thread when it rains, and the nature wholeheartedly accepts it to beautify her fields and valleys. The raindrops lying scattered on leaf tops ,shining beautifully is referred here. The figure of speech used is metaphor and alliteration
The rain tells us that when it drizzles on the hilltops ,with its usual rhythm, the hills join with the rain to rejoice and when the rain showers down the valley, the plants and the flowers become mirthful and finally when it comes down the valleys in heavy downpours, everything in the nature are overjoyed as they become rejuvenated by the bounteous rain.Poetic techniques used are anaphora and personification.
The rain connects the two inseparable lovers the sly and the earth. The rain acts as a messenger between them. The dry earth is thirsty and the solid clouds want to shower down. The rain relieves both of them and makes them elated. The rain cures the ailment of earth by providing her dry lands a huge supply of water thereby making her fertile. The rain helps the clouds to release its stored energies. Poetic devices are metaphor, anti thesis and alliteration. The rain that nourishes everything on the earth, shares the same life cycle as mortals.we mortals are made up of the five elements and the rain too completes the same cycle. The arrival of rain is heralded by lightning and thunder .So does its departure announced by a beautiful rainbow outlined against the sky.The upraised wings means the powerful blow of a wind that stops a rain. The figures of speech used are anti thesis, simile, and personification.
The rain tells us that it takes its origin from the heart of the deep seas and then Soares upward with the stray clouds and then comes to the parched fields downwards and bless them in a million little ways. The rain makes the whole earth drenched in its bounty. www.shenischool.in
Rain is a very common phenomenon. Every one can hear and see it.But only those who possess a sensitive heart could understand and enjoy it. It falls gently on the window panes, oozes downwards, which might normally fire a sensitive heart.Rain has a soft melody of its own.But one needs to be highly sensitive to enjoy it
The rain takes its birth from the heat in the air as well. But just like a woman who gathers strength from man only to overpower him,the rain kills the very heat.
The rain is imagined as the sigh of the sea ,Gibran always felt nature as a mother.Hence at the time of separation, one heaves a sigh. The fields are overjoyed because of the produce they got and hence they laugh in glee. The rain is the tear because rain droplets are released from the sky.It may be the tear at the time of separation again.
In the final stanza, the rain signs off.It reminds us that it is the sigh of the deep seas, the laughter from the field and tears from the sky.
Gibran was one of the most environmentally aware writers of the early 20century.His world of nature is rich and unlike other Arab writers,he saw nature as invested with a life of its own with spiritual ,intellectual and emotional dimensions. The ancient cedars, the magnificent valleys, the myriad streams, rivulets, and waterfalls and the awe inspiring mountain fired the mind of Gibran and resulted in highly sensuous nature poems.
ANOTHER CHANCE
**Write
up on Environmental Pollution
The population of our planet is
increasing constantly. The population growth, unfortunately, has many adverse
effects, one of which is the pollution problems. Pollution is a process of
contaminating the environment in a way that it becomes unsafe to use. The
contamination usually occurs through the chemical substances; however is not
limited to tangible effects. The pollution can also take the form of the light,
sound (noise pollution), or heat. The effects of pollution are devastative. The
report of the NGO Pure Earth suggests that one of the seven deaths occurs due
to pollution. Another comparison shows that pollution kills 60% more people
than malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis combined. In this light, it is
important to explore the various types of pollution and its effects on the
environment and human beings.
One of the pivotal issues nowadays is the water pollution. The
enlargement of the population means more trash and garbage. The rubbish dumps
decay and the toxic substances permeate the soil going to the rivers and
oceans. Moreover, tons of garbage are thrown directly into the water. There are
even special islands for garbage in the oceans.
Even though the technological development offers various approaches to
garbage utilization, most of the poor countries do not utilize innovative
technologies. Thus, pollution becomes the leading cause of death in
underdeveloped low-income countries. Nevertheless, water is contaminated not
only due to regular garbage utilization. The plants, factories and mills are
the key pollutants of the water. The process water from factories goes to the
rivers and seas in neighborhood areas. In some rivers, the water is
contaminated to the critical level and is banned from using. The fish and
living environment of natural ecosystems are contaminated by dangerous
chemicals that causes either the death of the entire ecosystems or hurts the
consumers of the contaminated products (seafood, fish, water, salt).
Additionally, water is polluted by
pesticides and fertilizations used in agriculture. The devastating effects of
water pollution may be decelerated by installing the water purification
mechanisms at factories and plants. These efforts should be promoted and
enhanced on the governmental level. Moreover, states should develop the global
programs of the environment protection as the problem is not limited to a
particular territory or state. It is a universal hazard that requires combined
efforts.
Another big humanity’s
challenge is air pollution. Air consists of nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor and
inert gases. When the typical structure of air is altered, we can observe the
effects of air pollution. The primary reason of air contamination is the effect
of the burning fuels. The smoke floats in the air and most people breath it in.
Further, it affects the health resulting in respiratory diseases, cancers and
other problems. Another type of air pollutants are dangerous gases, such as
sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and chemical vapors. Those
gases undergo the reactions in the higher atmosphere layers and return to the
surface in the form of the dangerous chemicals (acid rains) that ruin the
living environment. Moreover, carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide create the
so-called “greenhouse effect” when the radiation is absorbed while the heat is
prevented from escaping. It is a natural process. However, the high
concentration of the gases makes Earth warmer and affects the natural processes
on the planet. Thus, air pollution is one of the contributors to the global
warming.
The growth of population and
technological progress have imprints on the ecological stage of Earth. The
extraction of natural sources, work of factories and plants, and other products
of human activity result in various environmental problems. The pollution of
water, air and sound have extremely negative effects on our environment. The
effects of the pollution include acid rains, detrimental diseases and illnesses
of people and animals, and global warming. The environmental pollution is the
global problem that calls for radical actions for environment protection and
rehabilitation. More than that, the problem should be resolved on a global level
by the united efforts of the global community.

Today seemed an exiting day.Mom and me have decided to fly to pucallpa to meet daddy and to celebrate Christmas. We have packed all the essentials. I was dreaming about the exiting Christmas eve,and the joyous moments. We have reserved tickets on the lansa airlines. I could not wait just another day to meet dad.Besides I love to spend my vacation in the exotic amazon rain forest.since my parents invest a lot of time in doing research there , I too join with them in their quest.it was like a learning experience for me.I get live lessons from them.people in the flight are in a holiday mood.once the flight takes off ,the view downward is next to heaven.the Amazon forests look like broccoli.I had my breakfast with mom and the stewardess informed us that there won’t be any delay.Anyway I was waiting to reach as soon as possible.
2. Julianne koepke is invited to your school to deliver a motivational speech .prepare the same.
Most beloved children,
Thank you for inviting me to spend a couple of hours with you ,sharing some of my experience. Hope you would get enriched, motivated and inspired to face the unexpected hurdles that pop in our journey of life.I feel so exited to see young faces brimming with enthusiasm and curiosity. Let me confess that this gives me immense pleasure and strengthens me to recollect my nightmarish encounter in the Amazon rain forest.
Life is full of unexpected twists and turns.I,at the age of 17 I,took my flight with my mom to Pucallpa to celebrate Christmas with my dad.Being born to a geologist and an ornithologist, I was a little privileged than the rest of my ilk.I got life lessons involuntary from my parents about the nature of forests and a handful of useful safety tips to follow while trapped alone in a thick forest .Those tips came to my rescue when the flight I travelled was hit by a lightning. I miraculously landed in the thick foliage of the forest without much life threatening bruises. The thick undercover saved me from further injuries. But when I came to my senses,I realised that I was the lone survivor and I have to digest that reality with much bitterness.the following days saw me struggling to reach a safer place where I could get noticed by a rescue ship or a plane .It was like a virtual hell,to walk with a swollen feet with fleas feasting upon.but it never occurred me to give up.I resisted eating tempting delicious looking fruits which may prove detrimental to my life, because I learnt from my parents that the lush green Amazon is very deceptive. Even when I failed to walk ,I tried swimming because I know that the current would drag me along.thus 11days of exhausting and tiring walk and rigorous swim I spotted a hut.I was dying to see a human.but I could not find anyone.but after a couple of hours ,a few men came back.they were mestizo.my wounds were tended by them .I was given a fruit mash and the next day I was taken to a jungle settlement at Tournavista, where I was given medication. But by the time I reached the camp ,I have lost all the features of a human figure. The wild bees and the insects disfigured my face and limbs. It was a nightmarish sight.Even today when I recall,I shudder at the mere thought. But I was a headstrong girl and it was only because of my grit that I am credited to be the lone survivor of the plane crash. My dear children, all of us have to face some kind of difficulties alone,at some stage in our lives. We could not expect our parents to be with us all the time.Certain decisions are to be taken alone without a single source to guide us.We learn a lot of things during our school
daysBut the most important one is the basic knowledge we acquire about life. The way we face the challenges define our character. We are the makers of our own destiny.their are thousands of examples of gritty persons who have made their life worth emulating. More than intelligence, I would say grit would help move forward even in your test scores.hence developing a bold attitude towards life is going to save you from the fatal blows.you are all very young.life has not yet started offering its bitter cups to you.but young guys, let me remind you this essential lesson of grit, perseverance, and willpower would make you stand erect. My life has taught me the lesson I never have learned from my classroom. We never cease to learn.the lesson we learn from first hand experience last way longer than the one we watch, read or hear about. I hope you all would be strengthened by similar stories. I urge each of you to lead an eventful life.something worth to boast of,to be emulated and to leave a message to the rest of the mankind.
Thank you

***WRITE UP ON PHYSICAL FITNESS
The importance of physical fitness
cannot be emphasized enough. In today's society that is moving towards a more
sedentary lifestyle, there is a greater need than ever to increase the daily
activity level to maintain both cardiovascular fitness and body weight.Staying
active means keeping your body functioning at a high level. Regular exercise
will maintain the performance of your lungs and heart to most efficiently burn
off excess calories and keep your weight under control. Exercise will also
improve muscle strength, increase joint flexibility and improve endurance.
Another main benefit of physical
activity is that it decreases the risk of heart disease, the leading cause of
death in America. Additionally, it can decrease your risk of stroke, colon
cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure. Regular exercise has been long
associated with a fewer visits to the doctor, hospitalization and medication.Exercising
does not have to be something boring and dreaded. It can be something that you
enjoy that helps to increase the overall happiness in your life, as well as
relieve symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety. Try to find some activities
that give you pleasure, or even a buddy to do them with so that exercise is a
fun and enjoyable activity (and one that you continue on a regular basis
because it adds something good to your life).
It is not what you are doing, as much
as it is whether or not you are doing something. Any type of moderate activity
like walking, swimming, biking or organized sports can contribute to your
physical fitness. Explore your fitness options at your local gym, community
center or community college for courses and organized activities that may suit
your lifestyle and interests.
Everyone! It is important for all people to stay active
throughout their lives. Because of busy work and home lives, more than 60% of
Americans do not get the recommended amount of physical fitness daily and these
numbers generally increase with age.Throughout adulthood is one of the most
important times to maintain an exercise regimen. This is the ideal time to
maintain your weight, build strong bones and prevent many chronic health
problems like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
