Answer: The Nawab broke a piece of roti dipped it in the ‘Dal Shahi urad, put it into his mouth chewed slowly and said ‘Ah’. The Nawab then told Qadir that dal shahi urad was really heavenly and that he had never tasted anything better so he deserved a reward.

6. Why was the dal not ready at Qadir’s shop?
Answer: The Dal was not ready at the shop because Qadir made Dal Shahi Urad only on orders.

Answer: Sadiq was upset because he knew if the Nawab wouldn’t reach the shop in time, his father could be angry, throw the dal away and they could forget the reward.

Ans; The story revolved around a pair of chappals rather than a human character. Throughout the story, the chappals were being given away without a thought. The owners’ wishes were not taken into consideration at all. The children took a hasty decision and gave away the music master’s chappals without realizing what they were doing. Later on Rukku Mani gave away Gopu Mama’s chappals to calm down the furious music master.
4.      Who was the actual loser in the story?
Ans;  Gopu Mama was the actual loser because the poor fellow was left without a pair of chappals. The music master got Gopu Mama’s chappals as compensation for his pair that was given away to the beggar. But nobody bothered to think what this poor fellow would do every evening as he was in the habit of removing his shoes hurriedly, to get into his comfortable chappals.

George got butter on his slipper and getting it off from there; they tried to put it in the kettle but not before it stuck on Harris’ back side. Both of them really messed up all the things.

ANS:  Hari’s mother had taken shelter in Swaraj Bawan , as her husband used  to beat her up.  In this way the author’s grandfather Nanuji noticed Hari  decided to employ him. He went to school as well.

2.    Describe Hari?
           ANS:  Hari  was a tiny man, five feet tall with a brisk walk. Even though he was a grown up , he was mischievous  and this made him different from the  other grown up’s  of the family. He used to amuse children by telling impossible  stories.

3.   Which two admirable qualities of Nanuji did Hari become aware of?
          ANS:  Hari became aware of Nanuji’s kind nature and his large heartedness as he latter forgave him  and received him back to the family. Hari  knew he couldn’t find anybody like him.

         ANS: If anyone in the family met him doing some work , he would fling aside   the shoes he was polishing  or the clothes he was folding and start jumping about merrily making faces , until with tears of laughter streaming down our faces, we would beg him to stop.

1.     Why did ronin lose all his nerve?
Ans: The ronin was initially furious and agitated. He eagerly awaited to attack the tea-master whom he had challenged. When the tea-master appeared calm, greeted him like a friend the ronin was taken aback. He did not expect such a friendly approach by his opponent. He was caught unawares and did not know how to attack a man who stood peacefully, eyes closed, sword held firmly above his head, waiting to lay down his life. He was scared and gave up before the fight began.

Ans: The story has an underlying message of peace and love. Goodwill, non-violence and love always triumphs over evil. What is the poet trying to portray in these lines?

Answer:
On Sundays he usually goes to church and sits among his boys. He hears the parson’s pray and preach and enjoys her daughter’s voice while singing with the village choir and it makes his heart rejoice. The daughter’s voice in the village choir reminded him about his wife, who is dead and singing in paradise. He is very affectionate and lovable to his family; he thinks about his wife and wipes tears from eyes.

Answer: The village Black Smith by Henry Wordsworth Longfellow represents a character of a common working man of the time period. He is a mighty man, with large strong hands, and brawny arms. These would be part of the profession, as being a blacksmith would require great strength. He has crisp or curly black long hair and tan face.
He “looks the whole world in the face” is reflective that he is honest. If a person can look anyone in the eye, he can tell them the truth. It also illustrates confidence.
He is strong man, even though he is very generous and lenient to school children and his family. He remembers his diseased wife and wipes the tears from his eyes. This is most favorite feature of the Black smith.

1.     What exactly turned Corbett into a naturalist? Write your answer in brief.
A.    Jim Corbett was fond of hunting but later turned into a naturalist. One day three military officers accompanying him fired at a batch of waterfowl and killed 300 hundred of them. He had shut his eyes but when he saw such uninhabited and merciless shooting just for the sake of pleasure he was shaken up. He had a change of heart and decided to work for the preservation of wild life rather than harm them.
2.     How would Jim lecture on his favourite subject?
A.    Jim would often lecture school children on his favourite subject, the jungle telegraph. He would announce the arrival of a tiger and imitates sounds made by various birds and animals. He would modulate his words to indicate how animals changed their call when the tiger was sleeping, stalking or under cover. Finally, he would first growl like a tiger softly and later loudly.

1.     Corbett was the pioneer when it came to preservation of wild life. Is it true? Why?
A.    It is true that Jim Corbett was the pioneer in preservation of wild life. ‘Shikar’ was popular among men but he later spoke against hunting of animals.He wrote articles and books, would lecture children, made documentaries, interacted with locals to help them realise that wild life had to be preserved otherwise tiger and many other animals would soon become extinct.


2.     “Catch them young” they say. How did Corbett do his bit to influence the young minds to make them understand the theory of ‘live and let live’?
B.    Young children have impressionable minds and can be moulded in the right way, Jim Corbett often visited schools, interacted with students and lectured them about wild life preservation. He would show documentaries, mimic animals to enable students realize the beauty of wild life and the need to protect it. He wanted them to realize that we should let animals live.
